The annual undergraduate induction day for the Beacon Observatory was held on the 13th October.
As usual excellent planning by the director with great weather conditions. The event was attended by 30 undergraduate students. A brief introduction to the telescopes in all the domes was given, and went through the procedures of how the participation in the observing sessions will be managed. Followed by a Q&A session. SpaceSoc was also present and had their dome open for everyone to have a look.
Amber who is Social Secretary of the SpaceSoc society commented:
“Having participated in the observing before, it was fantastic to finally see Beacon in-person and have all the components and equipment shown and their purposes explained. Seeing so many others attending and enthusiastic was great, and the opportunity to sit in on the observing is invaluable during the degree as it is helping me work out whether I’d enjoy observational astronomy having seen what it’s really like.”
