ASCOT is used in policy analysis and research by academic researchers, policy analysts and others.

There has also been interest in applying ASCOT in adult social care practice. The tool has been applied in various ways:

  • Individual care planning and/or assessment
  • To inform service improvement and planning
  • To demonstrate the value and impact of support and services.

Sometimes, ASCOT measures are applied in their standardized form. However, we have also worked with care providers and organisations to use ASCOT flexibly – especially in care planning and assessment. This allows ASCOT to fit with the organisation’s context and needs.

The ASCOT Framework of QoL attributes (areas of QoL) is a powerful tool to help staff and organisations understand what matters most to people. This can be used to improve services or to find the right fit between the person and the care and support offered.

Below we showcase some examples of ASCOT use in practice.
