ASCOT is used in analysis and research by academic researchers, policy analysts and others.

There has also been interest in applying ASCOT in adult social care practice:

  • For individual care planning and/or assessment
  • To inform ervice improvement and planning
  • To demonstrate the value and impact of support and services.

Sometimes, ASCOT measures are applied in their standardized form. This allows measurement of quality of life to demonstrate the impact of care and to evaluate services.

We have also worked with care providers to use ASCOT flexibly, especially in care planning and assessment. The ASCOT Framework of QoL attributes is a powerful tool to understand what matters most to people through conversation.

There is more information here about the use of ASCOT in care planning in older adult care homes. This refers to the experiences of the ASCOT team in working with the Whiddon Group (Austrialia) and Attendo (Sweden) in applying ASCOT.

Further examples:

  • BelleVie: Using ASCOT in individual care planning and reviews for home care in the UK.
  • Anglicare: Using ASCOT in individual care planning and evaluation of care services is Tasmania.
  • Servico de Información e Investigación Social (SiiS): Using ASCOT-SCT4 (Basque and Spanish translation) in a Provincial Government survey of older people in Gipuzkoa.
  • Home Counties Carers: Lucinda Kalupka, Director of Home Counties Carers, was awarded an Individual Development Award to engage with practice-based social care research in collaboration with the ASCOT team.
  • Tinkers Hatch: Using ASCOT-ER with adults with intellectual disabilities to support care planning and service delivery.
