WARN launches Anticorruption Breakfast series: Inaugural lecture by Prof Paul Phillips.

Professor Paul Phillips has delivered WARN’s inaugural lecture on Wed. 31st May 2023. The lecture on “Designing High Impact Strategies to Enhance Contemporary Anti-Corruption Policies and Research Outcomes” was followed by an interactive session. Participants include researchers, policy makers, academics, students, and activists from around the globe. The speaker addressed a number of critical issues relating to research impact generally and in relation to anticorruption studies. Anticorruption research is clearly one of humanity’s grand challenges and it is worth the effort. It is, therefore, worth developing the skills to create precise hypothesis that are testable. These are imperative elements that will also guarantee success in attracting funding and grants. It is important that academics and activists expand beyond their immediate bubbles and get into open research practice. This will require a consideration of relationships with wider stakeholders. They must find out the pain points and consider the job to be done. An impactful research outcome will deliver solutions that remove the pain that the research came to solve. In the area of research into business practices, for instance, high impact outcomes will involve several considerations. These include promotion of integrity standards, support for knowledge exchange and engagement with civil society. Paul Phillips is a Professor of Strategic Management and former Director of the Kent Business School (2007-11). He has held academic appointments at Cardiff Business School and the University of Surrey. Paul has served as Chair of the UK Association of Business Schools (ABS) Research Steering Committee, and is a member of the ABS Executive Committee. Paul has served on the Institute of Business Ethics Advisory Council, Westminster Business School Advisory Board and is a founder and Inaugural Chair of the ABS International and External Relations subcommittee.
