Members of our team at Port Lympne zoo

This Autumn has been an eventful one for the CogSoCoAGE team!

At the end of October, postdoc Victoria Brunsdon left the project for pastures new after 4+ years; Victoria was a hugely valuable member of the CogSoCoAGE team, and will be very missed by all of us. We wish her the best of luck in all her new adventures, and say a huge thank you to Victoria for all her hard work as part of the CogSoCoAGE team. To toast Victoria’s final day on the project, we had a brilliant lab day out to Port Lympne Wildlife Park. We had a great time, seeing lots of animals on ‘safari’… and even some dinosaurs!

In November, Heather Ferguson – the PI (Principal Investigator) of the CogSoCoAGE project – and postdoc Lizzie Bradford were lucky enough to go to Montreal, Canada, to attend the 60th Annual Psychonomics Conference, where psychologists from all over the world meet and present research on many different topics. Using data from the CogSoCoAGE project, Heather gave a talk on how our visual perspective-taking abilities change across the lifespan, whilst Lizzie presented a poster examining how our ability to understand other people’s mental states changes across the lifespan, and what factors may influence these changes. We had a wonderful, productive (and exhausting) few days at the conference, and thoroughly enjoyed hearing about all the exciting research taking place in labs all over the world.

Excitingly, whilst at the conference, Heather was awarded an ‘Early Career Award’, in recognition of her exceptional research accomplishments. Many congratulations, Heather!
