Luvell Anderson is a member of the philosophy department at Syracuse University. Previously he was assistant professor of philosophy at the University of Memphis from 2012 to 2018, and was the Alain Locke Postdoctoral Fellow at Pennsylvania State University before that. He earned his PhD in Philosophy at Rutgers University (2011).

Luvell is the co-editor of The Routledge Companion to the Philosophy of Race (Routledge, 2017), as well as the author of several articles on the semantics and pragmatics of racial slurs, epistemic injustice, and racial humor.

His research and teaching interests include philosophy of language, African American philosophy, aesthetics, humor, and social ontology.
