The proposed research represents an interdisciplinary, international collaboration between Drs David Williams and Sophie Lind (based at University of Kent, UK, and City University London, UK, respectively) and Professor Peter Carruthers, who is a based at the University of Maryland, USA.
Professor Carruthers is a world-leading philosopher of mind whose theories have fundamentally shaped the debate surrounding the topic we propose to investigate in the grant. His influence has been pivotal to the development of this research proposal, and he has been involved in the conceptual design of the project and in devising of the experimental tasks.
A central aim of the proposed research is to test theories that are at the intersection of philosophy of mind, cognitive neuropsychology, and developmental psychopathology. Professor Carruthers’ involvement in the project will facilitate the interpretation of results and he will be the lead author on a proposed over-arching theoretical paper, which we will submit to Behavioral and Brain Sciences toward the end of the grant.
The collaboration between the investigators will also serve to maximise the anticipated international impact of the research.
The project starts on 1 March 2015 and will run for 24 months.
