Monitoring and evaluating social forestry in Indonesia

MEPS – Monitoring and Evaluation of Social Forestry after the Indonesian translation – is a network of environmental researchers and practitioners dedicated to improving understanding of the environmental and social issues surrounding community forestry in Indonesia.

Community forest management is championed as a way to benefit local livelihoods and forest conservation and has been established in many tropical countries. Indonesia is in the process of reallocating 12.7 Mha of state forest to poor indigenous communities as part of an ambitious new social forestry policy. Our aim is to guide this process so that the benefits of community forestry can be felt by the people and places that need it most.

Our work was funded by the UK Darwin Initiative between 2016 and 2019.
