MEE Group Presence at the Diamond Spectroscopy Group User Meeting

Emeritus Professor Alan Chadwick, Dr. Maria Alfredsson and Dr Silvia Ramos represented the group at the Diamond Spectroscopy User Meeting on the 11th and 12th June.

MEE Group academic members Emeritus Professor Alan Chadwick, Dr. Maria Alfredsson and Dr. Silvia Ramos (associate member) recently attended the Diamond Spectroscopy User Meeting at the UK’s Diamond Synchrotron.  This User Meeting profiled the activities of current and former members of the Materials Research Group at University of Kent.  There were excellent talks by Silvia Ramos (Kent) on the new beamline proposal BERRIES and Professor Chris Hardacre (Manchester) on the new beamline SWIFT, which Prof. Anna Corrias was also involved in developing the successful proposal for. There was also a talk by Dr. Ellie Schofield on archaeology and museums. Ellie Schofield is a former postdoc from the Materials Group at University of Kent who is now Head of Conservation & Collections Care at the Mary Rose Trust, and is a current collaborator of Dr. Donna Arnold in the MEE Group.

The User Meeting also profiled the Energy Materials BAG (Block Allocation Group) which is supervised by MEE Group academic members Alan Chadwick, Maria Alfredsson, and Silvia Ramos (associate member). This has benefitted several MEE Group PGR students by providing access to X-ray absorption spectroscopy during their PhD projects as well as facilitating them making connections to other researchers in the UK using X-ray spectroscopy to study energy materials.

The picture shows Alan Chadwick and Ellie Schofield with Dr. Giannantonio Cibin at the B18 spectrometer on which the Energy Materials BAG operates.
