Dr Gavin Mountjoy to Co-Chair Rare Joint Meeting for Glass Science

Dr Gavin Mountjoy will co-chair a rare meeting combining three well established glass meetings at the University of Cambridge in July alongside giving an invited presentation on the magnetic neutron scattering of glasses.

Gavin Mountjoy is co-chair, together with Prof. Alex Hannon of the ISIS Neutron Source, of a large international conference on Glass Science taking place at Churchill College, Cambridge, during 15-19 July 2024.  It is, in fact, a rare combination of three different Glass Science meetings: the 15th International Conference on the Structure of Non-Crystalline Materials, the 15th European Society of Glass Conference, and the annual UK Society of Glass Science and Technology meeting, and there will be 172 participants from 22 countries.  Furthermore, the International Conference on the Structure of Non-Crystalline Materials has not been held in England since 1982, when it was organised at Cambridge University by Dr. Phil Gaskell, the PhD supervisor of Gavin Mountjoy.  As well as being co-chair, Gavin Mountjoy will be giving an ISIS sponsored invited talk on “Magnetic neutron scattering of glasses and the case of speromagnetism in iron phosphate glass”, on the first day of the conference, in the memorial session for the prominent British glass scientist Prof. Adrian Wright.
