MEE Group Attendees at Inaugural CChESMate Meeting in Lille

Most of the MEE group attend the inaugural CChESMate network meeting at the Universite de Lille joining other researchers interested in Materials Science driven solutions to modern societies climate change and energy challenges from Lille, Ghent University and KU Leuven.

The first meeting for the Climate Change and Energy Solutions through Materials Science (CChESMate) network was held on the 28th and 29th of April 2022 at the Universite de Lille. The two day meeting brough together almost 50 researchers from the University of Kent, Universite Lille, Ghent University and KU Leuven who are partners in the Interregional Internationalisation Initiative (3i) University Network. It covered a wide range of related topics including fuel cells and the hydrogen economy, energy storage technologies, materials for solar cells and new cooling technologies, radioactive waste capture and computationally driven materials development. This provided a fantastic opportunity to learn about high quality research at the partner universities and meet potential collaborators to build more opportunities to work together. The meeting also included a tour of the world-leading facilities at Lille for the analysis of structure, composition and dynamics of materials. 15 members of the Materials for Energy and Electronics (MEE) group were in attendance. Keynote talks were given by Professors Anna Corrias and Mark Green along with 5 talks from other academics and students in the group and 7 poster presentations. The meeting also provided an excellent opportunity to experience some of the other highlights in Lille including excellent food and local beverages! It is anticipated that this will be the first in a series of annual meetings of the group with it being anticipated future meeting will be held in Belgium and Kent to maximise engagement across the network.
