Congratulations to Mario Falsaperna for passing his PhD viva
Mario Falsaperna, a PhD student within the MEE group under the supervision of Dr Paul Saines, passed his viva subject to minor corrections on Friday the 23rd of September. His thesis was entilted “Influence of Structure and Doping on Frustration in Low-Dimensional Coordination Polymers” and carried out studies of how modifiying the structure and chemical composition of coordination polymers featuring 1D chains packed in a frustrated triangular lattice changes their magnetic interactions. This gives insight into how to optimise the magnetocaloric properties of these materials, allowing them to be further developed for cooling for low temperatures as an efficient replacement for increasing scarce and expensive liquid helium. Mario’s examiners were Dr Matt Cliffe (School of Chemistry, University of Nottingham) and Prof. Anna Corrias (MEE Group). Congratulations Mario!
