Prof. Catherine Richardson and Dr Rory Loughnane, ‘The Countryman's Opinion: Ballads, the Middling Sort, and Print Culture’, Monday 4th December, 2-3pm, Templeman Library, Special Collections and Archives (Block A, Floor 1).
To celebrate the University of Kent’s Special Collections and Archives’ recent receipt of a generous donation of a seventeenth-century ballad sheet, Prof. Catherine Richardson and Dr Rory Loughnane will be discussing ballads and ballad-writing in the early modern period, how they were read (and sung) and by whom, and the print culture that encouraged their writing and supported their circulation. They will be thinking about them as part of a wider cultural practice around changing concepts of leisure time.
2-3pm, Monday 4 December, Templeman Library Special Collections (Room A|1|08)
