Laura Romain is a PhD student in the Centre for Medieval and Early Modern Studies. Her thesis researches the movement of the Huguenots of France to Canterbury during the French Wars of Religion and draws a line between formative experience and creative expression to analyse the works of Christopher Marlowe, who was growing up in Canterbury at the time of the exodus. Her project, supervised by Dr Rory Loughnane and Prof. Catherine Richardson, will be working closely alongside the Oxford Marlowe, feeding directly into the Materialising Marlowe website, showcasing materials related to the life of Marlowe. Laura also worked with The Oxford Marlowe team during the time leading up to and during her MA at MEMS, as she worked on the Mapping Marlowe Project. She is the inaugural recipient of the Abdulrazak Gurnah Doctoral Scholarship at the University of Kent and a past awardee of both the R. A. Foakes award and the Sasha Roberts Scholarship.
