My research interests lie in late medieval religious and cultural history. I have worked on the history of medieval heresy and inquisition, writing a monograph on the theories and practices of anti-heresy repression at the time of Jacques Fournier. With V. Lavenia and R. Parmeggiani, I co-founded the International Center for the Study of Inquisitions at the University of Bologna. My research and published works also include the history of the medieval papacy, with a special focus on the 14th century. My current projects investigate the diplomatic relations between the papacy and the East and the circulation of texts and information about the Oriental regions at the papal court of Avignon.
