Patrizia has conducted extensive research on aspects of political dynamics, and urban life in Late Medieval Sicily. In particular, she has delved into the relationship between monarchical and local powers, and, more recently, into the relationship between Palermo's convents and the city. She has research experience across many different European archives (in Italy, Spain, and the Vatican State). She also promoted the international research network 'Consensus and Dissent in the Political, Religious and Social Life of Medieval Europe (11th - 15th centuries)', which kicked off in October 2020, the first outcome of which is the volume 'Potere, governo, opposizione politica e rivendicazoni socio-economiche nell’Europa
medievale', published in 2021.
