PhD Supervision

Please see below the teaching staff available to supervise animal-themed PhDs, and their areas of supervision.

Professor Karen Jones:  Environmental relations with animals; animals in history; hunting; species histories; taxidermy, animal exhibition and display; dogs and wolves.

Professor Donna Landry:Topics related to animals in history and literature, early modern to the present.

Dr. Kaori Nagai: Animal-themed PhDs relating to literature, theory, and history from the long nineteenth-century to the present day, esp. topics relating to colonialism/postcolonialism and/or maritime studies, are welcome.

Dr. Derek Ryan: Animal themed PhDs relating to modernism, theory, the contemporary, and philosophy and literature.

Dr. Matthew Whittle: Animal studies topics relating to postcolonialism, ecocriticism and contemporary literature.​
