12th December 2023, 7pm, Sibson Lecture Theatre 3
Prof. Michael Smith (University of Kent)
The sudden appearance of the Star of Bethlehem two millennia ago is an unsolved mystery. Is it a concern for archeoastronomy, astrology or astrophysics? Professor Michael Smith will endeavour to put heavenly apparitions into perspective. He compares augers and omens, the bringers of war and destruction, and reveals the truth behind supernovae, comets and cosmic explosions. Or was it what we would now call a misbehaving black hole?
You can read a short preview of the talk following an interview with Prof. Smith here.
The talk is free and open to all. There is no registration required for this talk – just turn up on the day. Doors open about half an hour before the talk begins.
