Livia Joins the University of Kent for a Six-Month Research Project on Computational Forensics
The KAIROS initiative at the University of Kent is delighted to announce the arrival of Livia Mariotto, a visiting PhD student from the University of São Paulo. Under the guidance of Felipe Fantuzzi and Nigel Mason, Livia will spend the next six months contributing to the CAPES-PrInt Project COMPASS on Computational modelling of new psychoactive substances.
Livia is currently enrolled in a PhD programme at the University of São Paulo, where she explores computational chemistry and multivariate statistics under the supervision of Aline Bruni. Her work focuses on the forensic study of new psychoactive substances (NPS), particularly substituted N-2-methoxybenzyl phenylethylamines (NBOMes), and extends to include NBOHs and 2C molecules, employing in silico methods like DFT calculations and software that predicts toxic behaviour.
During her stay at Kent, Livia aims to deepen the in silico studies on NPS by addressing their use as pro-drugs and metabolites. Her research will play a crucial role in understanding the structural and toxicological characteristics of these substances, which is vital for forensic science.
The KAIROS team is excited to have Livia on board and looks forward to the unique insights and contributions she will bring to our community. Please join us in welcoming Livia to Canterbury and wishing her a successful and enriching research stay.
