From Bonds to the Stars: Felipe Fantuzzi Speaks at Ruhr University Bochum

Felipe Fantuzzi delivered a research seminar at the Center for Theoretical Chemistry in Bochum, engaging with RESOLV researchers and exploring future collaborations between RUB and Kent.

As part of the Theoretical Chemistry Colloquia (SS 2025) at Ruhr University Bochum (RUB), Felipe Fantuzzi was invited to present his research seminar “From Chemical Bonds to Interstellar Space: Contributions from Theory” on 14 May 2025. The talk was jointly hosted with the Cluster of Excellence RESOLV, a major interdisciplinary initiative focused on solvent-mediated chemical processes.

RESOLV, funded by the German Federal Government and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, brings together over 200 scientists from RUB, TU Dortmund, and other institutions to investigate how solvents influence chemical reactions—a key to breakthroughs in energy storage, carbon reuse, and smart sensing.

The visit, organised by Lars Schäfer, also provided an opportunity to strengthen institutional connections between Kent and RUB. Felipe held one-to-one meetings with Jörg Behler, Dominik Marx, Viktoria Gessner (Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and Biochemistry), and Schäfer, discussing shared interests in main group chemistry, astrochemistry, supramolecular chemistry, supramolecular chemistry, solvation dynamics, and theoretical method development.

In addition, Lucas Araújo, a former MSc student at Kent and now a PhD student under Schäfer’s supervision at RUB, presented his doctoral research during the visit. Felipe also reconnected with Karolyna Gomes, another former MSc student, now active in the Bochum research community.

This visit marks an important step toward building collaborative bridges between Kent and the vibrant research environment at RUB.
