Shaping the Future of Astrochemistry in Colombia: KAIROS Influences Global Dialogue and Research Innovation
KAIROS is proud to announce the participation of Heidy Quitian-Lara, Felipe Fantuzzi, and Nigel Mason at the upcoming First Colombian Astrochemistry Symposium (SICOAQ). The symposium is set to take place at the National Observatory in Bogotá, Colombia, from October 23-26, 2024. Heidy will serve as both co-chair and a local organizing committee member, highlighting her integral role in the symposium.
The SICOAQ aims to advance the field of astrochemistry in Colombia by merging disciplines such as astronomy, chemistry, physics, and biology. This interdisciplinary approach is crucial for exploring the molecular complexity of the cosmos and understanding our origins. The event will be hosted in Bogotá, a city celebrated for its rich heritage and cultural vibrancy, situated 2,600 metres closer to the stars.
The agenda for the symposium includes keynote lectures from global experts, plenary sessions, and poster presentations. SICOAQ will also offer four specialised courses in experimental, observational, theoretical, and educational and dissemination fields in astrochemistry. These sessions are designed to deepen participants’ knowledge and skills, with course certificates provided for attendees.
In addition to in-person attendance, the symposium supports virtual participation, allowing a global audience of teachers, students, and researchers to join. This format is intended to strengthen knowledge networks and foster international collaborations.
The KAIROS team’s involvement highlights the organization’s commitment to contributing to global discussions on astrochemistry and supporting emerging research initiatives. Felipe, Nigel, and Heidy are expected to bring valuable insights and experiences to the symposium, enhancing the event’s academic richness and fostering discussions on future research directions.
SICOAQ represents a significant step in positioning Colombia at the forefront of astrochemistry research, supported by sponsors like the Europlanet Society, COSPAR, ACS, and others. This symposium is not only a celebration of advances in astrochemistry but also a platform for shaping the future of this fascinating discipline.
