The Keepers of Infinite Space

With contributions from Caroline Rooney and in association with the Global Uncertainties programme, the critically acclaimed Moving Theatre presented the world premiere of Omar El-Khairy’s The Keepers of Infinite Space at The Park Theatre, an exciting new venue in London, from 22 January to 16 February 2014.

The play explores how ‘since the Israeli occupation in 1967, Palestine has become a nation of prisons. Up to 40% of the male population has been detained under military orders. Virtually every family has seen relatives put behind bars and generations have grown up in the shadow of the cell’. The Keepers of Infinite Space will present to the public, a humane and multi-faceted perspective on one of the most significant on-going humanitarian issues that has been the focus of reports by international legal groups and various NGOs.

The creative team includes:

Writer: Omar El-Khairy is co-founder of the international theatre and film collective Paper Tiger (http://www.papertiger.org.uk/) and Leverhulme Associate Playwright for 2013 at the Bush Theatre. His last play Sour Lips was commissioned as part of the Counter-Culture season at Ovalhouse.

Executive Producer and Creative Coordinator: Global Uncertainties Leadership Fellow Caroline Rooney, who has also provided research and contributed to the play’s script.

DirectorZoe Lafferty is Associate Director and board member of The Red Room, and Associate Director of The Freedom Theatre, Palestine. She has directed plays at Riverside Studios and the Soho Theatre and toured work internationally with The Freedom Theatre. Her hugely acclaimed production of The Fear of Breathing, which she edited and directed, was described as ‘essential viewing’ by Dominic Cavendish in The Telegraph.

ProducerChris Foxon is the producer of the multi-award-winning Papatango Theatre Company which is one of Britain’s leading new writing companies, having won the OffWestEnd Award for Most Promising Playwright and the Critics’ Circle Most Promising Newcomer Award.
