Diversity in Physics

Your starting point to explore the diverse voices who have built the foundation of your physics journey

From ancient Indian mathematician-philosophers, to inventive military engineers in China’s Warring States era. From unsung heroes of the modern age to those almost lost to history. An extraordinarily diverse range of voices with just as many perspectives have contributed to Humanity’s understanding of the physics that underpin the world around us.

But many of these brilliant and fascinating thinkers and their contributions have been overlooked or pushed aside in the Western scientific tradition. This doesn’t just rob them of well-deserved recognition, it can discourage aspiring physicists from entering a field that doesn’t seem to include them. But now, as more and more people realize the missing pieces in their narratives, we all have the chance to learn from the past and present, and look forward to a fairer and more inclusive future.

This website serves as a virtual museum, spotlighting contributions from just a few of the many varied voices you may not have heard of. So, whether you’re an aspiring physicist, a lover of the historical or obscure, or even a seasoned professor wondering what all the fuss is about, we invite you to step inside and explore.
