In leading universities in Cambodia such as the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP), the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC), the Royal University of Agriculture, and the National University of Management (NUM), OR has been included in the undergraduate and graduate curriculums. For example, an OR course has been taught at the Department of Mathematics at the Royal University of Phnom Penh since 1998. More recently, with high demand of job markets such as transportation, logistics and supply chains, OR courses are taught within a few new Industrial Engineering programmes such as those at ITC and Paragon International University. Additional more advanced OR courses are offered within the Master’s Programme in Logistics and Supply Chain Management at NUM.
Despite the above, human resources in OR in Cambodia are very limited. There are only a few who have graduated from a Master’s Programme majoring in OR from abroad such as India and Thailand. Most of these initially graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from RUPP. Until recently there has been no graduate programme in OR in Cambodia. A research community in OR has not yet been established, although the OR team at RUPP intends to establish such a community in the near future. Through the CREST-OR project, the developing OR community in Cambodia hopes to improve their OR research capacity, with technical assistance available within the network of project partners, as well as being able to demonstrate an OR application in Cambodia.
