Daniel Lopez Perez is a PhD candidate in International Relations at the University of Kent, Brussels School of International Studies. His PhD thesis combines critical theory, historical materialism and protracted social conflict analysis in the study of the Colombian social and armed conflict. Daniel has developed a concept called the hegemonic vehicles whereby he explains the Colombian conflict’s protraction. He holds an MA in International Political Economy at the University of Kent, Brussels School of International Studies and has obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Los Andes in Bogota, Colombia. He also holds additional studies in Philosophy from the same University, and in Qualitative Research Methods in conflict contexts from the National University of Colombia. Daniel’s main research areas are social conflict; critical political economy; critical theory; and Colombian and Latin American politics.
