
We are delighted to be joining our friends at Incomindios on October 29th as they host a webinar to examine the ongoing legacy of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. The speakers are as follows:
Vivian Timmins is an elder and band member of the Constance Lake First Nation in northeastern Ontario. She has a BA and MA in social work, and coordinates the MMIWG program for Indigenous Service Canada. She is a support worker for the Native Residential School Support Services, and an author and international speaker on MMIWG. She will be speaking about intergenerational trauma.
Cassandra Spade is a human rights and language rights activist from Mishkeegogamang First Nation in Ontario. She is an Incomindios UN youth delegate and speaker. She has a BA and is currently enrolled in postgraduate study in Community Economic and Social Development. She engages both Indigenous and non-Indigenous worldviews, methods, and processes in her work. Her focus is on creating safe spaces to connect Indigenous youth to their language, identity, and culture. Cassandra will be speaking on the impacts of MMIWG on youth, and particularly on questions of language and identity.
LeAndra Nephin is an enrolled member of the UmoNhoN tribe of Nebraska and a graduate student at the University of Oxford. She is a Trauma therapist who works with survivors of sexual violence and serves as a board member for “Beyond the Spectacle: Native North American Presence in Britain”, for the Omaha Tribe Historical Research Project, and for Incomindios UK. She is a public speaker, blogger, and Indigenous activist with a strong focus on MMIWG. LeAndra will be speaking about the long history of MMIWG.
Claudia Claros is a Bolivian lawyer specialising in Indigenous Peoples’ Water Rights. She has worked as a researcher for PEIRAV and CEJIS Bolivia. She recently completed an MA in Human Rights, focused on Latin America. Claudia currently works for a charity which provides refuge and support to victims of domestic abuse, while also serving as an Incomindios UK board member. Her focus on the 29th will be on Indigenous women in Colombia during armed conflicts.
