Project Title: The Relationship between Intermediaries and the International Criminal Court.

Project Description: The Rome Statute as well as the Rules of Evidence and Procedure do not provide a framework through which the Court ought to interact with intermediaries. In brief, intermediaries are either called upon by ICC staff or they voluntarily offer to act as bridges between local communities and the ICC. Despite being overlooked at the Rome Conference, intermediaries’ presence in the structure of the Court is paramount as without them the Court would not be able to engage with beneficiaries of international justice. Yet intermediaries have received little academic attention. The research employed concepts of space, identity and hybridity in the context of post-colonialism to examine the place of intermediaries in contemporary international criminal law.
