About

Roy Dewar was born in Battersea, London, and left school aged 15. After the death of Timothy Birdsall in 1963 Dewar became the regular weekly political cartoonist on the Spectator, after a brief interval when Donald Rooum drew the cartoon.

In 1962 Dewar also collaborated with Bill Wellings to produce the 'J.J.' strip for the Sunday Express. He continued working for the Spectator until 1967, and a collection of his Sunday Express strips - entitled J.J.: it's only money! - was published in 1971. He also drew joke cartoons for the Daily Sketch and other publications.
