David Rowe was born in Preston in 1924. In 1962 he began drawing the long-running “Playboy” series for the Daily Mirror, for whom he also created the “Nobby” strip. Rowe remained at the paper until 1986, his wife later recalling that he “loved every day working for the Mirror.”

He continued to work as a freelance cartoonist until his retirement in 1994. Rowe died from lekaemia in October 2004.
