Donald Parker had what he called “an unspectacular Art School career teaching graphics, painting and drawing”, but also did some work as a cartoonist. His work appeared in The Observer, and in 1961 and 1962 he began contributing an idiosyncratic series of cartoons to the New Statesman.
At first his work alternated with that of “Niky”, but on 13 April 1962 he took over the feature altogether, and ran it until the end of the year. In 1963 Parker provided the illustrations for John Boulting’s novel “Heaven’s Above”, and in 1973 he illustrated David Storey’s book “Edward”.
