Kathryn Lamb is one of the UK’s leading female cartoonists.
Lamb’s parents worked for the Foreign Office, and her father became British Ambassador to Kuwait, and then Norway. Lamb grew up in the Middle East and went on to study English at St High’s College, Oxford, where she first started drawing for Private Eye in 1979. She now illustrates ‘Psueds Corner’ for the magazine, alongside contributing to Spectator, The Oldie magazine, and the Church Times. Her work has also appeared on the front page of The Sunday Times.
Lamb has illustrated a variety of books, ranging from Spike Milligan’s poetry in ‘Condensed Animals’ to a series of Arab proverb books. Most recently in 2021 she illustrated ‘The Authority Gap’ by Mary Ann Sieghart. She has also written and illustrated her own books for Puffin and the Piccadilly Press.
In 2012 Lamb won the Cartoon Arts Trust Award for Cartoon Joke of the Year, and again in 2020. She is an active member of the Professional Cartoonists Organisation, and has recently donated two drawings for their fundraising effort in aid if refugee children. In recent years she has also worked with the NHS and their Quit Smoking campaign.
Kathyrn Lamb has six children, six cats, and nine grandchildren. She enjoys sharing her talent with family, having designed wine labels for her son’s wedding as well as illustrating cocoa pods for her daughters burgeoning chocolate business. She lives in Dorset, and is currently studying for a Graduate Diploma in History of Art at the Courtauld Institute.
