The project aims to develop a meteorite detection algorithm for the UK meteor radar network. This is an amateur led project which current has 5 live data streams and we are looking to use AI techniques (probably yolo) to detect, classify and analyse these in real time. This project requires coding and the student will work closely with the radar team, as well as collaborators from vision metric who are experts in feature detection in images. The science in this project is the statistical analysis and characterisation of the identified meteors, and potential crossmatches with optically detected fireballs from the fripon network, which we are also part of.
The top image is a photo is a Perseid while the lower image shows a montage of some other detections.
