Royal Museums Greenwich: Astronomy Education Officer (Deadline 29th January)

Astronomy Education OffiThe Astronomy Engagement department is based at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, and undertakes a wide range of science communication and engagement programmes and activities for Public and Educational audiences. Reporting to the Senior Astronomy Manager, Education and Outreach, the Astronomy Education Officer will be primarily responsible for the planning and delivery of the Observatory’s Astronomy Education programme. Key duties include developing online and in person courses, workshops and resources for primary and secondary students, as well as for teachers. You will train educational presenters, and deliver planetariums shows and other astronomy programmes as part of the Education and Public teams. Representing the Astronomy Education department at conferences and other settings is an important element of the role, finding new opportunities to collaborate with educational and science communication professionals. You will also work with other RMG departments and communicate with schools directly to ensure the Astronomy Education programmes run smoothly, with an emphasis on accessibility and inclusion for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) audiences.

The successful candidate will have a degree in a relevant STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) subject. Excellent communication skills are required, including presentation and writing skills, with experience of tailoring your communication for a range of audiences across various media. You will be able to simplify complex scientific concepts, and have experience developing programmes or resources that deliver against the national curriculum for science in the UK. The postholder will be a committed team player, with the ability to work independently, manage workloads and the workloads of others, and consistently meet deadlines.

This is a full time, permanent role in Band 5 – Middle Management and Professional Specialists. Core hours of work will be 36 per week, Monday – Friday between the hours of 9am-5pm, with weekend shifts on a rosta and rest days either side. Due to the nature of the work, some flexibility may be required. Flexible/hybrid working options are available.

Salary: GBP 35,885
