Congratulations to Aashini and Matthew who have both just Published their First Papers as Lead Authors!!

Publishing your first paper is a hugely important milestone for postgraduate students and so these represent a great achievement for Ash and Matthew.

Ash Patel is a 3rd year PhD student working on a project investigating one of the earliest stages in the formation of high-mass stars when accretion stops and the star starts to form an bubble of hot ionized gas around it. This paper reports on a radio continuum search of these bubbles using the Australia Telescope Compact Array and is the first in a series of four papers to identify the role hypercompact HII regions play in the evolutionary sequence of high-mass stars.

Some example of the high-mass star formation regions investigated in this paper.

I am extremely happy to have finally published my first paper, the years of work have paid off and I am looking forward to publishing more in the coming years.

Matthew Dickers is in the first year of his PhD in Applications of Multiscale Modelling in Modern Topics of Science and Technology.

Nanoparticles present a promising method of enhancing tumor radiotherapy. We have conducted molecular dynamics simulations of 3.7nm diameter gold nanoparticles coated in polyethylene glycol-based ligands of different lengths to emulate radiosensetising nanoparticles within a cell medium. We conduct atomisitic-level analysis of the coating structure to evaluate the radiosensitising effectiveness of a particular nanoparticle system based on the proximity of water to the metal core.

Getting my first paper published is a very satisfying feeling; it is the culmination of months of work and seeing it published is very validating. I am looking forward to the next one!
