The ‘Book as Body’ workshops were led by artist Darian Goldin Stahl while she was a visiting Researcher in the School of English at the University of Kent (January-April 2019). Workshops took place in Canterbury and in Paris, as part of the Health Humanities Summer School, organised by Columbia Global Centers, Paris and the CHCI Health and Medical Humanities Network in June 2019. Darian guided participants through the process of creating a sculptural book that would become the materialisation of a physical or other symptom in their bodies. The aim was to communicate what that symptom feels like in a multisensorial way, using the complex structure of expression offered by the artist’s book medium. Read Darian’s reflections on the workshop and watch the tutorial that accompanies this workshop.
