Vikkie studied at the University for the Creative Arts in Canterbury and went on to train as a graphic designer in Leeds. After graduating, she began volunteering with the collections team at the Dockyard in 2013.
After a year working with the visitor services team, leading ropery tours and manning galleries, she began her professional career in the heritage sector in 2015 as Collections Assistant at Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust (CHDT).
Over the last five years she has worked on collections care and acquisitions, research enquiries, temporary exhibitions, large scale installation of new galleries, interpretation and other museum design projects, the auditing and relocation of CHDT’s printed book collection (assisted by a team of volunteers) and developing their online collections.
Since 2018 Vikkie has held the post of Digital Engagement Officer at CHDT. Her work has played a key role in enhancing the online presence of the Dockyard’s historical collections and associated stories. From March 2020 she has been working with colleagues to increase digital engagement using previously unseen collections material and was involved in delivering the Dockyard’s successful ‘Museum From Home’ campaign. Looking to the future, Vikkie will be part of a drive to develop the digitisation of CHDT’s collections material to fulfill their core charitable objectives of preservation and learning.
