The digitisation of the Oral History archives of Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust is completed.
170 tape recordings in total have been digitised (59GB of data) and information was organised using the Oral History spreadsheet template from ‘The Keep’ archives. The spreadsheet contains all the necessary information needed for archive publication. The digitised recordings and the electronic document have been handed to Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust (CHDT).
The recordings contain reminiscences of former Chatham dockyard apprentices, shipwrights and other dockyard workers, radio interviews, lecture talks, memories from WWII and the battle of Zeebrugge in 1918. The CHDT archives have been enriched with new interviews conducted by our research team, including interviews of women workers who were largely missing from the original archives.
