The University of Kent has a longstanding commitment to impactful, interdisciplinary research that enables our research community to venture beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries in addressing regional, national, and international priorities.
In 2020, Kent completed an institution-wide reorganisation to ensure that our interdisciplinary approach is appropriately supported by our institutional structures. In creating six new academic Divisions from the previous school and faculty structure, we have transformed our ability to respond to opportunities to achieve siginificant cultural, economic, and social impact. This has led us to identify five broad areas of research strength:
- Creativity, Culture, and Heritage
- Cyber Security, Digital Technology, and Communication
- Health, Social Care, and Wellbeing
- Social Justice, Inequalities, and Conflict
- Sustainability, Environment, and Natural Resources
Combined with our strategic investment in our five broad research areas and our ongoing commitment to supporting academics at all career stages to apply for and secure external funding, the Impact Acceleration Project (IAAs) will enable us to further extend our reach, diversify the beneficiaries, and achieve a sustainable improvement in the quality of life, health, and creative and economic output of the region.
