Cameron Macdonald

PhD Candidate
Appreciation over Power: The Art Collections of the Whitehall Group 1600-1650

About

Cameron is part of both MEMS and the School of Art & Architecture at the University of Kent, conducting a PhD in Medieval and Early Modern Studies.

He is looking into the art collections of the Whitehall Group during the 17th Century, pre-Civil War (the group consisting of King Charles I; Duke of Buckingham, Hamilton, Earl of Arundel, Pembroke and Northumberland). His particular focus is on the artistic appreciation by these characters, what drove them to collect, and what indeed they were collecting (e.g. mythology, religious, contemporary, Renaissance etc.)

In 2019, Cameron completed a BA Hons in History at the University of Chichester, followed by an MA in History at Southampton University the following year. He has interests in medieval and early modern history. He is supervised by Dr Manolo Guerci and Dr Suzanna Ivanic.
