Since implementation of GHT differed across the five Primary Care Networks (PCNs) in which it has been implemented, a case study approach was undertaken to explore how diverse contextual factors enabled or challenged the growth of place-based approaches to health and wellbeing. The aims of the study were:
- To describe delivery and reach of GHT in each of the five East Surrey PCNs
- To identify the ‘active ingredients’ needed for successful development and implementation of GHT
- To identify the impact on citizens who participate in a GHT initiative
- Develop a framework for implementing GHT in PCNs, detailing how collaborations can successfully cultivate local conditions for health and wellbeing
- Pilot the framework in one PCN to gather early learnings
In order to achieve these aims, the study undertook a mixed methods case study design underpinned by two implementation frameworks which informed the design of data collection, as shown below.
