{"id":414,"date":"2019-06-26T09:36:43","date_gmt":"2019-06-26T08:36:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/globalassemblages.org\/?p=414"},"modified":"2020-10-27T16:35:51","modified_gmt":"2020-10-27T16:35:51","slug":"law-and-society-association-annual-conference-washington-dc-june-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/globalsecurityassemblages\/2019\/06\/26\/law-and-society-association-annual-conference-washington-dc-june-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"Law and Society Association Annual Conference, Washington DC, June 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Alejandro and Gavin were in Washington DC in June 2019 to present their draft research paper (\u2018Global Security Assemblages and International Law\u2019) at the annual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lawandsociety.org\/WashingtonDC2019\/Washington2019.html\">Law and Society Association (LSA) Conference<\/a> \u2013 the world\u2019s largest conference of socio-legal scholars.\u00a0 Their paper was part of a panel entitled, \u2018Law and Security: Technologies, Sites and Practices\u2019 which examined how law is reconfigured through security and engaged with different theoretical and methodological approaches for understanding the law-security nexus.<\/p>\n<p>Other participants included: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sociology.northwestern.edu\/people\/graduate-students\/profiles\/anya-degenshein.html\">Anya Degenshein<\/a> (Northwestern University), <a href=\"https:\/\/palestinesquare.com\/author\/maya-avis\/\">Maya Avis<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gregoiremallard.com\/\">Gr\u00e9goire Mallard<\/a> (Graduate Institute, Geneva), Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wiso.uni-hamburg.de\/fachbereich-sowi\/ueber-den-fachbereich\/personen\/krasmann-susanne.html\">Susanne Krassman<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wiso.uni-hamburg.de\/fachbereich-sowi\/professuren\/hentschel\/team\/drapal-vojta.html\">Vojta Dr\u00e1pal<\/a> (University of Hamburg), <a href=\"https:\/\/pure.qub.ac.uk\/portal\/en\/persons\/teresa-degenhardt(416dfbd3-261b-4950-ab17-a32066bd9ce9).html\">Teresa Degenhardt<\/a> (Queen&#8217;s University Belfast) and <a href=\"https:\/\/en-law.tau.ac.il\/profile\/smadar1_94\">Smadar Ben-Natan<\/a> (Tel-Aviv University). World-leading socio-legal scholar, Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/criminology.utoronto.ca\/facultyandstaff\/faculty-2\/faculty\/mariana-valverde-frsc\/\">Mariana Valverde<\/a> (University of Toronto) gave generous and critical comments on the papers.
