Alejandro and Gavin were in Washington DC in June 2019 to present their draft research paper (‘Global Security Assemblages and International Law’) at the annual Law and Society Association (LSA) Conference – the world’s largest conference of socio-legal scholars. Their paper was part of a panel entitled, ‘Law and Security: Technologies, Sites and Practices’ which examined how law is reconfigured through security and engaged with different theoretical and methodological approaches for understanding the law-security nexus.
Other participants included: Anya Degenshein (Northwestern University), Maya Avis and Grégoire Mallard (Graduate Institute, Geneva), Professor Susanne Krassman and Vojta Drápal (University of Hamburg), Teresa Degenhardt (Queen’s University Belfast) and Smadar Ben-Natan (Tel-Aviv University). World-leading socio-legal scholar, Professor Mariana Valverde (University of Toronto) gave generous and critical comments on the papers. Alejandro and Gavin will now be using this valuable feedback to rework their research article for submission to a leading international law journal this Summer before the close of the research project.
