{"id":12,"date":"2018-01-16T12:08:10","date_gmt":"2018-01-16T12:08:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/upgrade-gcrfbiopharma\/?page_id=12"},"modified":"2021-05-26T12:32:57","modified_gmt":"2021-05-26T11:32:57","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/gcrfbiopharma\/","title":{"rendered":"Home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our goal is to bring about a permanent step change in the ability of Thailand, and eventually other SE Asian countries, to produce a range of advanced medicines and vaccines for the treatment of major human and animal diseases.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Project aims:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"en-GB\">To produce life-saving biopharmaceuticals in Thailand on a large scale, resulting in both increased access and reduced costs, enabling greater reach both within Thailand and across the ASEAN region.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>To produce a suite of high value veterinary vaccines against major porcine diseases with reduced manufacturing costs, resulting in a sustained reduction in livestock losses.<\/li>\n<li>To establish state of the art technical capacity for recombinant protein production by Thai groups, which can be expanded upon and consolidated for future growth.<\/li>\n<li>To give neighbouring SE Asian countries full access to the programme\u2019s technology and expertise in order to effectively plan similar ventures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This project brings together Thai groups at the forefront of the country\u2019s new programme to produce recombinant proteins, UK groups that have developed state of the art E. coli-\u00a0 and CHO cell-based expressed systems as well as down-stream processing and analytic tools, and Bangkok-based UK specialists in SE Asian healthcare, economic policies and dissemination tools.<\/p>\n<p>This work is funded by the Global Challenges Research Fund and will contribute towards several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>No poverty (SDG1)<\/li>\n<li>Zero hunger (SDG2)<\/li>\n<li>Good health and well-being (SDG3)<\/li>\n<li>Industry, innovation and infrastructure (SDG9)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more information see our project brief:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/gcrfbiopharma\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1441\/2018\/03\/GCRF-2page-brief-_Thai-version_final-7-Mar-18.pdf\">Project brief (Thai)<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/gcrfbiopharma\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1441\/2018\/03\/GCRF-newsletter-two-page-240218-final.pdf\">Project brief (English)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our goal is to bring about a permanent step change in the ability of Thailand, and eventually other SE Asian countries, to produce a range of advanced medicines and vaccines for the treatment of major human and animal diseases.
