The excellent progress made in the first two years of the project means that we are now moving towards scale-up of bacterial cell growth. Towards this aim, the research team from NBF, including research assistants Sarawuth Noppiboon,Sirirak Ponsa, and Jantakan Jullawateelert, along with Principal Investigator, Lalintip Hocharoen, travelled to UCL for training and technology transfer.

During their 3-week stay in London, the Thai team took part in two intensive courses run by the Department of Biochemical Engineering at UCL: “Downstream Processing: From Cell to Column” and “Downstream Processing – Chromatography”. In addition, team members from NBF, Kent and UCL worked closely together in the lab to develop and refine methods for fermentation at 30-Litre scale and the downstream process used for product recovery. After a very successful visit, the Thai and UK teams have well-coordinated protocols and plans that can be rapidly pushed forward to help us reach our project aims.
