Mario obtained a BSc in Chemistry in 2016 and a MSc in Materials Chemistry in 2018 from the University of Catania, Italy. During his Master’s, Mario focused on the synthesis of the Fe-based Metal-Organic Framework (MOF) Fe-MIL-101 as a thin film on silicon for gas absorption and separation. He joined the Saines group at the University of Kent in January 2019 to pursue a PhD degree funded by the Leverhulme Trust. His research focuses on the exploration of MOFs exhibiting the magnetocaloric effect and their optimisation for low-temperature magnetic refrigeration, along with an interest in the exciting magnetic states these materials feature.
