Research interests

Dr Patrick Doheny obtained a BSc (Hons. I) in 2015 followed by a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry in 2019 under the supervision of Professor Deanna D'Alessandro and Professor Cameron Kepert at the University of Sydney. His PhD focused on the fundamental characterisation of electroactive Metal-Organic Framework (MOF) materials, with a particular focus on frameworks exhibiting intervalence charge transfer and spin crossover properties. These materials were investigated using a variety of techniques including solid-state electrochemistry, spectroelectrochemistry, crystallography and density functional theory (DFT) whereby the novel properties of the MOFs in their oxidised or reduced state could be examined.

Patrick joined the Saines group in 2020 as a Postdoctoral Research Associate working on the development of magnetic MOF materials that exhibit novel magnetocaloric properties for use in low temperature magnetic refrigeration applications.
