Embodied Academics

I had 12 ’playdates’ with academics who self-identified as having an embodied practice including yoga, dance forms, meditation, climbing, martial arts, running and alexander technique. The academics had all levels of seniority from PhD students, lectures, senior lectures and full professors. They came from a range of disciplines such as sociology, dance, drama, maths, education, cultural studies and anthropology.

Each meeting took place in a studio space, and the participants had access to high-quality art materials. The dates were filmed, and the data include transcripts from interviews, video footage, and the original art that was created in addition to my own reflexive journal.
