About an hour from London in “The Garden of England,” the University of Kent is set on a hill above the historic UNESCO World Heritage city of Canterbury, offering stunning views of the ancient Cathedral and the surrounding city. The seaside towns of Whitstable, Margate, Ramsgate and Broadstairs are a short distance away, as are the ports of Dover and Folkestone, from which there is easy ferry access to Calais and Dunkerque. Additionally, the Eurostar channel tunnel train departs regularly from Ashford (23 minutes from Canterbury) for Paris, Brussels, and other European destinations.

The centre of town is a 20 minute walk away (busses available to and from campus), and delegates can choose to stay on campus in University accommodation or in hotels in town (see Accommodation). Near to Canterbury is beautiful countryside and lovely beaches (including the Margate Main Sands overlooked by the Turner Contemporary gallery).
