Marine Terminal Energy Independence (MaTEI)

Funded by: DfT through Innovate UK

Marine Terminal Energy Independence (MaTEI) is part of the Smart Shipping Acceleration Fund (SSAF), funded by the UK Department for Transport (DfT) and delivered by Innovate UK. SSAF is part of the Department’s UK Shipping Office for Reducing Emissions (UK SHORE) programme, a £206m initiative focused on developing the technology necessary to decarbonise the UK domestic maritime sector.

The MaTEI project consortium led by Scotline and in collaboration with Rhizome Energy Limited aims to evaluate the feasibility of developing a microgrid and complete energy ecosystem within the Scotline Terminal (Transit) at Rochester, Kent. Dr Ramin Raeesi, the Director of the Centre for Logistics and Sustainability Analytics (CeLSA), leads the work package focusing on the development of a technoeconomic feasibility analysis tool to identify opportunities for the development of an onsite hydrogen production and distribution system, working towards to a zero-emission port; a model that can be replicated in other similar ports and operational settings within the UK and beyond.
