Ethnobotanical studies in Spain show that this erosion is not homogeneous, and that there are knowledge areas such as health or food where erosion is not so deep.\u00a0 In this lecture, he describes environmental, econo<a class=\"nova-legacy-e-link nova-legacy-e-link--color-inherit nova-legacy-e-link--theme-bare\" href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/publication\/346920620_Taming_the_pandemic_The_importance_of_homemade_plant-based_foods_and_beverages_as_community_responses_to_COVID-19?_sg=sz96Qg-iMPUw8SjDhe-ICeaKy_KrmTYHN3pVlAdShrj_zKFVGrikJ5EI9SL6jkI_BHwBE-_p-Il_Ux2hQlrbkKQktNcEHCXOqMFJ7j_U.2HFFXQqy9cvvWW37YOOblgNFRqwPvm0ef95c5LQYGLFq_oZme47Atiac5Nje_13tzmSEPSYhgfMowoM0I3SThA\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2250 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/cbcd\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1843\/2021\/09\/IK-Spain-book-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"157\" height=\"217\" \/><\/strong><\/a>mic, and cultural factors that may explain the general erosion trend across Spain, such as the abandonment of traditional agricultural practices, and then highlights a countertrend in the continuing value of gathering and use of wild plants for food and medicine.<\/p>\n<p>Given the importance of traditional ecological knowledge, two Spanish initiatives promoting its documentation, protection and return to society are described: (1) <em>The Spanish Inventory of Traditional Knowledge related to Biodiversity <\/em>that compiles and publishes information on the traditional use and management of flora, fauna, fungi, geodiversity, and ecosystems; and (2) CONECT-e (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.conecte.es\">www.conecte.es<\/a>), an online platform where citizens can document knowledge and uses of wild and domesticated species.\u00a0 Using open data and copyleft licenses, these initiatives contribute to the maintenance of traditional botanical knowledge in the commons, guaranteeing the free exchange and reproduction of knowledge.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2244 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/cbcd\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1843\/2021\/09\/Manuel-Pardo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"156\" height=\"190\" \/><strong>Professor Manuel Pardo-de-Santayana<\/strong> is a botanist and ethnobotanist in the Biology Department at the Universidad Aut\u00f3noma de Madrid and the Real Jard\u00edn Bot\u00e1nico in Madrid.\u00a0 <span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Since 1997, he has been working on different aspects related to the use of plants: traditional use and its evolution, productivity, nutrition and sustainability of these resources, <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">especially wild food plants, traditional cultivars and medicinal plants in the Iberian Peninsula.
